City Council additionally requests the drafting of an ordinance to appropriately accept donation of a Juneteenth flag for those purposes. Celebrated on June 19th of each year, Juneteenth highlights and honors the exact date (June 19, 1865) on which the 1863 Emancipation Proclamation issued by President Abraham Lincoln was officially declared and enforced in the State of Texas, the most remote and isolated of the American states in which slavery had been permitted during and prior to the Civil War.   Action details Not available
